Holistic Teaching of Holistic Medicine

What do we teach when we teach the way we teach?

Teaching a profession involves a relationship in which an individual equipped with certain competencies offers to those who wish to embark on the profession certain learning situations that will enable them to develop the same competencies.

Therefore, each discipline requires the teacher to develop a didactic approach that accounts for the following:

- The paradigms within which the discipline was developed

- The theoretical and conceptual frameworks for the discipline

- Specific competencies, which the teacher presents to the students as learning objectives.

The teaching of TCM is no exception to this pedagogical imperative, and teachers can improve their skills by reflecting on the issues involved and the pedagogical competencies required.

This seminar introduces participants to the basic tenets of the holistic pedagogical approach so that they can relate them to the teaching of diverse TCM disciplines in harmony with the unique and specific nature of these disciplines. The teaching relationship is considered as a privileged meeting between two individuals who are conscious of the Pathway and in the process of traveling it.

In this session:

- Participants will be introduced to the notion of the Three Treasures of the holistic teaching of TCM.

- Participants will learn how to connect the particularities of each energetic movement (Water–Wood–Fire–Earth–Metal) with its outcomes in the holistic teaching of holistic medicine.

- The implications of this paradigmatic change will be addressed, and students will be coached in managing the epistemological rupture that this process implies.

- Participants will be introduced to a number of related teaching strategies for transferring their knowledge of TCM.

- We will use a mixed approach that integrates the theories and practices of psychosynthesis and Qi Gong.

- We will also cover theory, metacontextualization, mental imaging, and transformative practices.
