What truly determines endometrial receptivity? In this lecture, Drs. Martine Cornelissen (acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine; specialising in gynaecology and fertility) bridges key biomedical concepts — the HPO axis, the timing of the implantation window, progesterone and LIF, and the biochemical dialogue between embryo and endometrium — with classical insights into the Pericard, Heart and Sanjiao.
We will explore how Ministerial Fire and the quality of Jueyin-Blood determine timing, communication and readiness.
Participants will gain a clear framework for integrating these perspectives into clinical practice, with practical strategies for assessment and treatment.

Optimising endometrial receptivity is a critical determinant of successful implantation and overall reproductive outcomes, yet it remains a complex challenge in patients affected by genitourinary conditions such as chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, recurrent urinary tract infections, endometriosis, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), and recurrent implantation failure.
This lecture examines the role of acupuncture in enhancing endometrial receptivity. Drawing upon contemporary research and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) theory, we will explore the mechanisms through which acupuncture can influence critical factors involved in this aspect of reproductive potential and examines strategies that address both systemic dysfunction and condition-specific pathophysiology.
By the end of the session, workshop participants will understand how acupuncture can be utilised in clinical contexts such as IVF preparation, natural cycle optimisation, and symptom reduction in inflammatory genitourinary disorders specifically for endometrial receptivity. Emerging evidence will be critically evaluated to differentiate established findings from evolving hypotheses, supporting practitioners in integrating acupuncture safely and effectively within multidisciplinary fertility care.
