Practical Implications for Fertility Treatment Strategies with Acupuncture and Chinese Dietetics
Lily Lai (GB)
Recent advances in endocrinology and metabolic research have led to the recognition of new subtypes of Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS), shifting clinical understanding beyond the traditional Rotterdam classifications. These emerging subtypes—distinguished by differential drivers such as insulin resistance and neuroendocrine dysregulation—offer valuable insight into why patients respond variably to reproductive interventions. This lecture examines the practical implications of these new PCOS profiles for fertility-focused treatment, emphasising the impact the new subtypes have on our understanding of integrating acupuncture and Chinese dietary therapy within personalised care plans.
Drawing from current research and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) expertise, the session will explore how each subtype can be understood within classical pathophysiological frameworks. Participants will learn how recognising subtype-specific mechanisms such as inflammatory load, cortisol-driven androgen excess can refine acupuncture point selection, treatment frequency, and cycle-based strategies.
The lecture will additionally provide practical guidance on tailoring Chinese dietetics to each subtype, addressing metabolic regulation, digestive function, and inflammatory pathways through food-based interventions aligned with TCM principles. We will use case-based examples to illustrate how integrating acupuncture with targeted nutritional strategies can enhance ovulation, regulate cycles, support assisted reproductive technologies (ART), and improve overall fertility outcomes.
By bridging emerging biomedical classifications with TCM-informed practice, this session offers clinicians an advanced, clinically actionable framework for treating the increasingly diverse and complex PCOS presentations seen in modern fertility care.

The Eight Extraordinary Vessels are powerful energetic fields that play a fundamental role in many aspects of fertility. Drawing on nearly twenty-five years of clinical experience, Drs. Martine Cornelissen shares how she weaves the Qi Jing Ba Mai into her fertility treatments to restore balance, vitality, and potential for new life.
Join this session for a broader and deeper look at the Eight Extraordinary Vessels and their profound relevance in reproductive medicine. Discover how the Qi Jing Ba Maican become a dynamic tool in your clinical practice — enriching your acupuncture and herbal treatments, and enhancing both clinical insight and therapeutic outcomes.

With reproductive medicine excluding procreation from sexuality a gap is created, that leads to stagnating life birth rates with ART over the last decade. So as obviously incrising technology can´t help with success rates, going back to evolutionary roots might do the job. In this lecture we are trying to re-include sexuality in a couple´s fertility journey to increase sperm quality using the Wisdom from ancient China and modern biology.
