TCM Kongress Rothenburg 2021: For the first time as hybrid congress - Focus on “Skin and Respiratory Diseases”

Berlin, 17 December 2020

From 11 to 15 May 2021, the annual TCM Kongress Rothenburg will take place, for the first time as a hybrid congress. The on-site congress in Rothenburg will be combined with a comprehensive virtual offer. Participants are offered the best of both event forms and interested parties who are unable to travel can take advantage of the wide range of continuous education opportunities and information at the congress as well. The main topic of the congress is: " Expressions of the Metal Element – Physical and Mental Manifestations of Skin and Respiratory Diseases". The congress programme is now available online at:

Due to the Corona pandemic, the 2020 congress could not take place on-site and was reorganized only within a few weeks to be held as online congress. Approximately 700 participants from 34 countries decided to take part in the experiment, which turned out to be a great success. The experience gained from this congress has influenced the conception of this year's congress and the outcome is a hybrid event.

The best of both event forms

"We assume that travel will still not be possible for some speakers in May 2021," explains Dr. Martina Bögel-Witt, President of the AGTCM, which is hosting the congress. "With our hybrid concept, we have on the one hand prepared for everything and on the other hand offer our participants a real added value." As in the past, participating on-site in Rothenburg gives the possibility to experience lectures and courses live, to get in touch with speakers and other participants directly and to enjoy the unique congress flair and the medieval venue. Those who cannot travel to the congress or can only be there for a short time can now connect via a special easy-to-use tool on the internet and participate in many events and virtually visit the congress exhibition. Continuous professional education credits will be available for both congress types.

Skin and respiratory diseases as key topics

This year, the focus will be on skin and respiratory diseases. Many courses and lectures, workshops and expert panels will be offered on this key topic and events will also be held on many different areas and aspects of Traditional Chinese Medicine and integrative medicine. For example, there will be theme days on TCM research, pediatrics in TCM, integrative nutrition therapy, allergies and treatment with Western herbs. There are also exciting offerings on integrative TCM therapy in fertility treatment, the basics of Chinese life care Yang Sheng, the treatment of dementia and intestinal diseases.

"The congress traditionally attracts participants from all parts of the world to Rothenburg," reports Dr. Martina Bögel-Witt. "Before the pandemic began, there were usually far more than 1,000 participants from up to 44 countries." The congress had established itself as the largest and most renowned congress on traditional Chinese Medicine in the Western world. The organizers would like to build on this in 2021 and meet live with as many participants as possible.
