Wang Feng Yi’s System of Virtue Healing, a Practical Exploration
Scott Tower, L.Ac., Dipl.Ac and Sabine Wilms, PhD
Born in 1864 in China's far northeast, Wang Fengyi is celebrated in China as a peasant saint and the founder of a system of healing that is known in English as "virtue healing" or "five-element healing through the emotions.”  This system is also known as Shan Ren Dao, or the “path of the good person.”
Blending aspects of Confucianism, Daoism, Buddhism, and Chinese medicine, this system offers some radical challenges to our understanding of both disease and healing, especially with regard to the role of the emotions.  The dynamic expression of gratitude, forgiveness, and remorse, along with the cultivation of specific virtues, has the power to remove emotional toxicity and reveal one’s essential Heavenly Nature.
This workshop will introduce Wang Feng Yi’s teachings, placing them in a cultural and historical context.  In addition, we will explore practical exercises for self-cultivation and contemplate the role of virtue, the heart, and the emotions in clinical practice and daily life.
Course goals
- A basic understanding of the theoretical foundations of Wang Fengyi's teachings;
- Increased awareness of the role of the heart and the emotions in disease and in healing;
- Introduction, through individual and small group exercises, to some of the practical expressions of Wang Fengyi's teachings, such as chanting, reflection, and sharing insights.
