Anxiety disorders are the most prevalent psychiatric disorders, and are associated with a high burden of illness. Anxiety disorders are often underrecognized and undertreated by primary care providers. Due to the marked distress these disorders and their complications cause these individuals often seek out Traditional Chinese Medicine to obtain relief from their suffering. These conditions include generalized anxiety disorder, panic disorder/agoraphobia, social anxiety disorder, and others that will be discussed during these lectures.
Throughout the COVID-19 pandemic, people have experienced increased levels of stress due to the shifts in their daily lives, feeling of loneliness, job losses, lack of physical exercise, isolation from family and friends, financial difficulty, and grief over the death of loved ones. The documented psychological consequences of the pandemic have shown increased rates of anxiety and panic disorders, as well as its associated symptoms of insomnia, digestive problems, and depression.
This course is a reflection of an advanced practitioner's clinical experience and understanding of anxiety according to TCM including diagnosing common patterns that appear in clinical practice and how to treat multi-pattern presentations using customized Chinese Herbal formulas and acupuncture. In addition, relevant traditional theories and new insights and approaches will be shared and applied to many complex case studies from the presenters practice.
