
Florian Beissner is Associate Professor of Systems Neuroscience at Hannover Medical School and Scientific Director of the Insula Institute for Integrative Therapy Research in Hannover, a private non-profit organization dedicated to advancing science, research, and education in the field of integrative healthcare.
After completing his degree in physics, he pursued postgraduate studies in Chinese Medicine at the University of Porto and received his doctorate from the Max Planck Institute for Biophysics and the Brain Imaging Center Frankfurt in 2010. Following postdoctoral appointments at the University of Jena and Harvard Medical School, he completed his habilitation in Systems Neuroscience in 2014. Shortly thereafter, he joined Hannover Medical School, where he served as Endowed Professor for Somatosensory and Autonomic Therapy Research until 2020.
He is the author of more than 40 original papers and reviews and has received multiple awards for his research. His current work focuses on integrating somatosensory stimulation techniques, such as acupuncture, with psychotherapeutic interventions, and on advancing embodied approaches to the treatment of chronic pain and emotional disorders
