Francesca Gentile was born in Rome and has lived in Italy, Switzerland, China, Japan, and the United States. She graduated from the Five Branches Institute in Santa Cruz, California in 1991. In 1998 she returned to Switzerland where she lives near Basel with her family. She has her own office for TCM and also works as an examiner on the TCM examining boards in Basel and for the leading Swiss TCM association (SBO-TCM). She also acts as a consulting herbalist for China Medical (which carries John, Tina and Alex Chen's formulas).
