Dr Joanna Dietzel is a specialist in neurology with additional qualifications in acupuncture. After studying at the University of Greifswald and completing her residency in neurology and psychiatry, she qualified as a specialist in Berlin. She received further training in traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) in Beijing, China, and in Berlin at the German Medical Association for Acupuncture (DÄGfA), completing her studies with the Medical Association examination for the additional qualification of “Doctor of Acupuncture”. This was followed by further training in Western naturopathic treatments. After working as an investigator in drug research, she moved to the Charité in 2014 to join the Centre for Stroke Research and, in 2018, to the Department of Complementary and Integrative Medicine at the Institute for Social Medicine, Epidemiology and Health Economics. As part of a postdoctoral fellowship from the Carstens Foundation, she coordinates clinical studies focusing on researching the effectiveness of acupuncture in neurological diseases. She teaches complementary medicine and social medicine at Charité and is a lecturer in continuing education for doctors, nurses and students.
