Studied physics at the universities of Stuttgart and Heidelberg. After graduating, he started his Ph.D. at the group for Somatosensory and Autonomic Therapy Research at Hannover Medical School, there he specialised in autonomic neuroscience. Especially in functional magnetic resonance imaging of the human brainstem and hypothalamus. His present research focuses on cardiovascular regulation, and on the effects of electroacupuncture on the autonomic nervous system.
