Jost Langhorst is professor of medicine and head of department of the clinic of Internal and Integrative medicine at the Klinikum Bamberg in Germany. He currently holds the position of chair for Integrative Medicine - focus on translational gastroenterology - at the University of Duisburg-Essen (Germany).
He studied medicine at the University of Muenster, UCSF in San Francisco and Harvard Medical School in Boston and was trained in internal medicine, gastroenterology, psychotherapy and naturopathic medicine. He is author and co-author of over 170 peer-reviewed scientific papers, with a research focus on gastrointestinal diseases, naturopathy and integrative medicine. Professor Langhorst has received numerous awards for his research efforts. He has cooperated in the development of, and co-authored numerous national guidelines including those for ulcerative colitis, Crohn’s disease and irritable bowel syndrome. His current research foci in various national and international research networks include: lifestyle, phytotherapy and complementary medicine in the treatment of gastroenterological diseases; phytotherapy and complementary medicine in medical guidelines; placebo/nocebo research and extinction; non -invasive diagnostic tools for gastrointestinal diseases, translational research focus is mucosal immunity.
