Dr. Lily Lai is a clinician–researcher and has been in practicing acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine for 21 years in the UK. She was awarded a prestigious NIHR research fellowship to carry out her PhD on the use of Chinese Medicine in UK primary medical care at the University of Southampton. Her academic journey began initially exploring the topic of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS)-related fertility and health concerns. What has followed since then has been a longstanding fascination bridging the gaps between the principles of traditional Chinese medicine, the ever-changing landscape of scientific evidence and how what our time-tested modalities can offer so much for areas of high unmet clinical need. At the Rothenburg conference, Lily will be drawing on from these themes to discuss three particular areas of clinical interest:
- A critical examination of Acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine treatment models for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) across the lifespan - including paediatric care and late-life diagnosis in adults and how we can offer support in navigating particular challenges these populations face;
- How acupuncture can optimise endometrial receptivity within genitourinary conditions - a hugely challenging topic for many of the fertility patients we see in practice who face recurrent implantation failure and how we can work effectively within multidisciplinary fertility care;
- How we can incorporate the new PCOS subtypes into our fertility practices with a specific focus on Acupuncture and Chinese dietetics - we’ll learn about how recent advances in endocrinology research is shifting our understanding beyond the traditional Rotterdam criteria and what practical implications these have for fertility-focused treatments.
We hope you will join us for a range of what promises to be engaging and clinically grounded sessions for a range of very hot topics for our clinical practices in 2026.
