Velia Wortman studied cultural anthropology at the University of Toronto, medicine at the Royal Free Hospital in London, UK and Chinese medicine in the Netherlands, China and Germany. Among her main teachers are Ted Kaptchuk, Giovanni Maciocia, Dan Bensky and Volker Scheid. She has taught Chinese and natural medicines at several German medical schools and written articles on various topics pertaining to Chinese herbal medicine, acupuncture and dietetics. She has been chairing the Research Section of the TCM Rothenburg conference since 2005.
